As a mom to a tween and a teen, and with nearly 20 years as a middle school teacher under my belt, I’ve learned a thing or two about patience, connection, and how to get a genuine smile—even when someone really doesn’t feel like smiling.

For two decades, my family and I lived an adventurous, international teacher life, hopping from country to country.
