Guys Senior Portraits: Your Ultimate Style Guide!

Alright, seniors, it’s your year! Time for the ultimate rite of passage—the senior portrait session. These photos are all about celebrating who you are now and where you’re headed. And when you’re looking back on these pictures someday, you’ll be glad you put some thought into them. Here are some of my best tips to make sure you feel comfortable and look your best, along with some outfit ideas to let your personality shine.

Tip 1: Bring Three to Four Outfit Options

One outfit? Not enough. Three to four? Perfect! We’ll be able to get a variety of shots and styles to capture different sides of you. Before the session, I usually hold a quick consultation to go over outfit ideas. I suggest bringing a few combinations of shirts, jeans, shoes, and accessories to really mix it up based on our location here in West Georgia. A mix of casual and formal options will give us more to work with, and hey, it’s nice to have choices!

Tip 2: Keep It Casual (But Make It Clean)

A classic jeans-and-tee look is always a winner. Just make sure your T-shirt is solid-colored and free from big logos (unless it's your school logo). If you’re feeling like adding a little extra style, khaki shorts with a three-button shirt and some casual kicks like TOMS or sandals give a relaxed but put-together vibe.

Tip 3: Go Formal (Especially If Mom Requests It)

A formal option is always a good idea. Try dark jeans with a sweater or overcoat, or go for a button-up with dark pants for that dressed-up look that keeps things classy. Not into ties? Totally optional! But if you're feeling fancy, go all out—you can’t go wrong with a suit and tie for these big milestone photos.

Tip 4: Make It YOU with Hobbies and School Spirit

Love sports? In the band? Big on the outdoors? Let’s show that off! Bring along your uniform or a few props—your football, guitar, or whatever speaks to who you are. If you’re a big fan of a specific band or have a favorite jacket, wear it! You’ll feel more comfortable, and it adds a layer of personality. Check out my Pinterest board (link below) for more ways to incorporate your hobbies into your look.

Tip 5: Don’t Forget Accessories (Yes, Guys Can Accessorize!)

Hats, shoes, and jewelry can really make a photo pop. Love your cowboy hat, baseball cap, or favorite fedora? Bring it! The same goes for any jewelry you regularly wear. And shoes? They’re more important than you think. Formal outfits look sharp with polished dress shoes like oxfords or chukka boots, while casual outfits pair well with sneakers, boots, or even a cool pair of Jordans. A suit with sneakers? It’s a vibe.

Tip 6: Prep Hair and Nails for the Big Day

A fresh haircut, neatly trimmed beard, and clean nails will go a long way in making you look polished. The goal is to look like yourself, but just a bit more put-together. And if scruffy is your usual look? That’s fine too—just let’s keep it intentional.

Most importantly, have fun with it. These portraits are about celebrating you, so dress in what feels natural and comfortable. You’ll look back on these photos and remember the fun and excitement of this milestone, not just the planning that went into it. And remember, for all the outfit inspo you need, I’ve got a Pinterest board ready to go!
